 IMPACT OF MODERN
LIFESTYLE ON IMMUNE SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION:

The immune system is a host defense system of a human which
protects us from diseases and infections.
Lifestyle is a way of living and combines tangible and intangible factors(Baninot, 2020). Tangible factors relate specifically to demographic variables i.e. an individual’s demographic
profile, whereas intangible factors concern the psychological aspects of an
individual such as personal values, preferences, and outlooks(Baninot, 2020).

The study
focuses on the impact of modern lifestyle on the immune system. The modern lifestyle has
many benefits including simplifying people’s lives and saving hundreds of people’s new lives through medicine and vaccines. On the other hand, the alternative has
negative effects on physical, mental, and social health(Baninot, 2020).

The modern lifestyle and diet patterns have undergone fundamental
changes in recent years. This is a very severe chronic health problem, which is
first noted in western countries but is a worldwide problem now. Due to busy
schedules and increased reliance on technology, we opt to choose easy dietary
foods and consume junk foods that contain high calories (Rajendra, 2015). This type of food has several side
effects (Rajendra, 2015). A food that is high in sodium, sugar, and fat and has high quantities of carbohydrates is known as junk food.
Today’s generation adopted this pattern, as these foods are easy to purchase
and ready to cook (Rajendra, 2015). The daily intake of unhealthy foods
affects nutrient absorption, oxidative energy, and energy storage (Rajendra, 2015). The lack of understanding
has affected our endocrine and immune systems and opened the door to many
diseases like obesity, food poisoning, cardiovascular disease, liver disease, diabetic
Mellitus, respiratory disease, and other many diseases (Rajendra, 2015). These nutritional
habits reduce our reproductive capacity and promote various types of cancers(N
Rajendra, 2015)
.

 After the study, we
addressed that we have to follow lifestyle medicine(Blanton, 2018). Lifestyle medicine
is a branch of medicine dealing with research, prevention, and treatment of
disorders caused by lifestyle factors, which is based on four pillars(Blanton, 2018) i.e.

·
Sleep and stress management

·
Physical activity

·
Relationships

·
Nutrition

FACT AND FIGURE:

Insufficient physical activities and a sedentary lifestyle are the cause of obesity, which also damages the immune system(Ali Imran, 2020). Annual worldwide
mortality from obesity is approximately 2.8 million people (Ali Imran, 2020).

Other common factors which disturb our immune system are anxiety
and depression. The excessive use of technology, online working, and extra
usage of android cell phones makes human life isolated and non-interactive. The
lack of social interaction promotes depression and anxiety and a sense of
loneliness. In Pakistan, our estimated population is about 170 million. It is
the 6th most populous country in the world. By 2050 it will be the
fourth most populous country (Ahmed, 2016).
Presently, an estimated 50% of people face depression and anxiety (Ahmed, 2016). This, in turn,
impacts social relationships such as marriage, family, and performance at the
workplace (Ahmed, 2016).
Depression is found to be higher in females than males(Ahmed, 2016)

Another important risk factor that damages our immune system
is hypertension and its related diseases including cardiovascular diseases,
cerebrovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease(T.Shafi, 2017). Worldwide, about
40.8% are affected by hypertension; in Pakistan, this ratio is about 35.1%(Shafi, 2017). Similarly, several
diseases such as diabetic Meletus and kidney diseases impact our immune systems. In Pakistan, the diabetic patient ratio is 15.5%, 60% of patients are diabetic
with hypertension, 13.2% of patients have chronic kidney disease and 49.4% of patients have kidney diseases with hypertension(T.Shafi, 2017).

INTRO OF THE VARIABLES:

Variable of lifestyle which impact our
healthy immune system can be categorized under these key factors
(D.farhud, 2015).

1. Diet and body mass index: Diet is the most important factor in our health which affect our immune system. Fast foods or
junk foods increase obesity (D.farhud, 2015).

2. Exercise: The one cause which decreases immunity and the immune system is lack of exercise causes high blood pressure, increase cholesterol levels, increase cardiovascular diseases, and obesity levels (Sharman JE, 2014).

3.
Sleep
:
Present lifestyle affects sleep, which shows harmful
impact on human mental, physical and social health. We have adopted late sleeping
habits due to tough schedules and extra usage of the internet (D.farhud, 2015)

4.
Sexual behavior
:
Dysfunction of sexual relations shows a negative impact on
human social, mental and physical health, which directly affect our immune system. (D.farhud, 2015).

5.
Substance abuse:
Addiction is a part of the modern lifestyle in which smoking,
alcohol, shisha, course, and heroin may cause various problems such as neurological
diseases, cardiovascular disease, cancer, asthma, and brain injury
(D.farhud, 2015).

6. Medication
abuse
:
Self-medication, medication use without a prescription, and over
or unnecessary usage of psychotherapeutic drugs cause harmful and long-term effects on human health and the immune system(D.farhud, 2015).

7.
Application of modern technology:
Misuse of technology cause harmful effect on
human health and the immune system. Excessive use of computers and android cell
phones has deleterious effects on eye vision and sleep patterns. (D.farhud, 2015).

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY:

The objective of the study is to find out the impact of
modern lifestyle on the immune system through different selected articles and how
they improve their immune system to reduce structural, emotional, and
physiological stress in modern lifestyles (Woodyard, 2011).

 We have to discuss
the facts by which human can enhance their strength, power, and immune system
and improve their cardiovascular and
respiratory function while abstaining from addictions, stress, anxiety,
depression, and enhancing their quality of life(Woodyard, 2011).
